Official music video by Ariana Grande, Social House performing “boyfriend”
Ariana Grande has a knack for capturing the true struggle of romantic turmoil. And today, Grande has served up new material for fans to sing along to. The singer has just released a new song and music video with Social House, called “Boyfriend,” and it’s all about having a crippling crush.
Explaining the concept for the new single on Twitter, Grande wrote, “We wanted to make something uplifting that captures that feeling of being afraid to take the leap & trust, being afraid of being hurt or feeling like you won’t be enough for that person … but also how it feels to have a crippling crush on someone.” The video even features a moment where she sees her crush talking to another girl at a party and she then, well, tackles her to the floor. In another scene, she also shoots an arrow at another mystery woman. (We’ve all had that jealousy-induced impulse, no?)
In the song, the Vogue cover girl also sings lyrics in the song such as, “You ain’t my boyfriend/and I ain’t your girlfriend/but you don’t want me to see nobody else/ and I don’t want you to see nobody.” It’s a funny evolution from the message in her “Thank U, Next” banger, “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored.” Looks like the old Ariana can’t come to the phone right now.
